The Medical department of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana, PAOG is currently screening prospective pilgrims from the Northern Zone at the Aliu Mahama sports stadium in Northern regional capital of Tamale. The screening exercise begun on Thursday June 13, 2019 along side the Biometric data capturing. Health is one of the key component of the PAOG and a lot of resources have been channeled into the activities of the medical department to ensure the health wellbeing of pilgrims both in Ghana and in Saudi Arabia before, during and after Hajj.
So far, close to 1000 prospective pilgrims have been screened with different ailment including Hyptention, diabetes, Malaria and many health conditions. Health education is also key in this exercise to further give clinical advise to prospective pilgrims on how to manage their life styles as they prepare for this year's Hajj.
Competent and credible health workers including medical Doctors, Nurses and public health nurses in the Northern Zone are temporaly helping screened the prospective pilgrims. The Medical Director of PAOG, Dr Seidu Zakaria in an interview applauded the prospective pilgrims for the level of cooperation exhibited since the screening started. He said, the screening has been helpful since his outfit initiated it in 2017 citing the stress free medical operations by the medical team in last year's Hajj in Saudi Arabia and he is optimistic of an improvement in this year's medical operations.
The screening exercise is expected to end on June 20, 2019 and the next stop will be in Accra and later in Kumasi in Ashanti Region.
